Update: It appears Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was not at the ICE facility at a protest, he was there in his official capacity with members of Congress, who were shoved around by the masked ICE thugs as the mayor was arrested.

It’s been a little while since I’ve shared a Daily Firehose cartoon, but there’s so much going on over the past few (many) days, I just had to create a new one.

I try to include only news items that have appeared on the current day, although some are ongoing policies and outrages so I roll them into the mix as well.

Beginning with Trump firing the Librarian of Congress (who I was lucky enough to meet when I was at the Library of Congress to receive the Herblock Award) to the fact that DOGE essentially controls the US Department of Interior and by extension the National Park Service, it still feels like we just can’t possibly keep up and are tempted to tune out.

Which is exactly what authoritarians like Trump want us to do.

I almost completed this animation a couple of days ago, back when news broke that Trump plans to rename the Persian Gulf the “Arabian Gulf” in honor of his Saudi benefactors — but the day slipped, so this version instead has Stephen Miller saying Trump is looking into dumping that pesky “habeas corpus” thing.

Even though individually we can’t possibly keep up with all of the Trumpist’s evil plans, we can’t throw up our hands and turn away.

So keep your eyes peeled let me know if there’s a story or outrage you stumble across that might not be getting the attention it deserves, that’s what I’m here for!
