Republicans Demand Brain Control

Um, can't we have mental health care AND gun control?
2

You may have seen the preview of this cartoon I posted earlier (and an initial take on the audio).

My angry thoughts on this topic are by no means original so I thought, okay, let’s take this to the next logical conclusion of what the pro-gun Republicans want to do.

If they really want to focus on “mental health,” what does that mean?

For some reason, Republicans like Texas Governor Greg Abbott seem to focus exclusively on the mental health angle of mass shootings and gun violence. If you’re a gun rights advocate, you are apparently incapable of pushing for better mental health care AND sensible restrictions on guns. What’s wrong with doing both?

Forget gun control, Republicans want nothing but brain control.

Now that the saying “thoughts and prayers” has become so obviously absurd, the new catchphrase is “mental health” anytime a horrific shooting incident takes place.

School shooting? Blame mental health. Mass killing at a shopping mall? It’s the mental health’s fault!

I’m all for mental health, but maybe, just maybe, the ridiculous amount of gun violence in this country has something to do with the fact that we are awash in guns. (Not to mention the fetishization of gun culture.)

Now onto a lighter, cartoon note…

You may notice this cartoon looks a little different than most of my other animated shorts.

I wanted to change it up this week and give the animation a looser, rougher look.

Honestly, now that I see the finished cartoon, I may have gone even rougher and more barely-held-together.

My thinking was to make something that looked a bit more like a rough cartoon or storyboard — less polished and maybe put together by the very Republicans who are pushing the “mental health” ruse.

Then again, they’d probably just create a cartoon out of rocks and sticks . . . and lead.
