From failed strategy to famine in Gaza
🤔How do you rise up against Hamas when you're dying of starvation?
Throughout the war in Gaza we’ve heard leaders in Israel call on Palestinian civilians to rise up and oust Hamas.
Those calls look particularly absurd as famine conditions spread throughout the decimated Palestinian enclave.
It’s yet another example of how Netanyahu’s war has no true strategy and no end — the only policy through line is revenge and retribution. (Yes, it is clearly genocide.)
We’ve long ago passed the point where every death can be blamed on the brutal Hamas attacks of October 7th, 2023.
Israel, backed by some of the most powerful U.S.-made weaponry in the world, has been unable to dislodge Hamas and free the remaining Israeli hostages.
Yet as billions of dollars of military death and destruction rain down on Gaza, civilians who are injured, starving and under attack are supposed to overthrow Hamas?
The death toll in Gaza recently surpassed 60,000 people, of which approximately 18,592 are children. (Women and children make up almost half the dead.)
There is no end in sight while starvation is on the rise.
Can we at least stop kidding ourselves that civilians will be able to heroically rise up and send Hamas packing?
Because right now, it seems like all they really want to do is find a little food and live another day.
Even worse,
"Let us not forget that it was Israel, which in fact created Hamas. According to Zeev Sternell, historian at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, "Israel thought that it was a smart ploy to push the Islamists against the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO)".
