Okay, I tried to avoid the dreaded Ron DeSantis campaign launch, I really did.
After all, there have been more important things going on, like preventing the world economy from blowing up at the behest of House Republicans.
Upon closer inspection, the campaign announcement was just too ridiculous for me to pass up — and fortunately/unfortunately, it revealed more horrible insights into DeSantis.
In case you were lucky enough to miss it, some backstory . . .
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any weirder, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced he was running for president in a Twitter live stream event hosted by eccentric billionaire and rising right-wing star, Elon Musk.
The event was of course a technical disaster, with dropped connections, satanic echoes and static that spawned the #DeSaster hashtag.
Not content with a supremely strange and awkward live online campaign launch, the DeSantis campaign quickly released an even stranger video that seemed to feature Elon Musk (complete with flamethrower!) more than the presidential candidate.
It turns out that the guy who bans books, arrests Black voters and buses desperate asylum seekers to Martha’s Vineyard for a photo-op . . . may have bad judgement.
If only DeSantis focused more on working out the technical hurdles of Twitter’s streaming audio and less time pushing discriminatory legislation. (Property rights especially for white people: good enough for the Founders, good enough for DeSantis!)
Enjoy the cartoon, I’ll see you back here shortly . . .
