Creative Morning: Donald Trump, Jack Smith & Me
Join me for the first steps of an animation . . .
•In this post: Donald Trump, Jack Smith & me. (And a video showing you the first steps of my upcoming animation.)
It’s been a busy day so far.
Early this morning, I was facing a largely blank sketchbook — although I did have pages full of notes.
This powerful Will Bunch column has been haunting me this week and helps form the basis for this cartoon. (It’s a must-read if you haven’t read it already.)
Oftentimes, I’ll do all of my research and note-taking on Monday and go to sleep with my head swimming about a particular topic.
I may have a germ of an idea or even an introductory line of dialogue written down (as was the case with this script), then I’ll wake up early and write the rest of the script.
For this animation, I’m taking a closer look at just how insane Donald Trump’s schedule is in the face of multiple trials, rallies and arrests.
. . . which is how I found myself drawing Jack Smith this morning.
The upcoming animation is called “The Trump Four-Dimensional Day Planner,” because I thought the Defendant-In-Chief could use some planning help.
Rather than post early audio of the upcoming animation, I thought I’d take you behind-the-scenes in a video as I create some of the essential pieces of the animation.
As I say in the video, even though this cartoon will be a bit silly, I also want to deliver the message that it’s quite possible the 💩 is about to hit the fan . . . again.
And if it does hit the fan again, it will likely be in a much worse way.
Instead of spoiling the entire animation here, I’d better get back to drawing and animating.
Keep your eyes peeled for the cartoon, and if you enjoy posts (and cartoons) like these, think about becoming a paid subscriber.
