Animating an antisemitic billionaire...
Targeting X Corp (aka Twitter), the nexus for so much awfulness
Now that I’m back from a short Thanksgiving break, I want to give you a little peek at what I’m working on this week: Elon Musk and what used to be Twitter.
The short version is, Musk posted in support of a clearly antisemitic tweet the day before Media Matters for America reported that major corporate advertisements on the platform were being shown next to “pro-Nazi” content.
Which led advertisers like IBM and Apple to pull their ads . . .
. . . and Musk to sue Media Matters.
Which led me to scratch a script and storyboard into my sketchbook.
I need phrases like “great replacement” and “white genocide” to be featured in the animation.
It feels creepy to even write/letter these phrases, knowing what terrible racist and antisemitic feelings they represent.
But it’s essential for the cartoon.
Unfortunately, the X/Twitter mess is about much more than a social network that an unstable billionaire is running into the ground.
It’s also about contagious white nationalism that has infected our politics and is driving unscrupulous people in government to act.
Meanwhile, on the new-character front, I’m working on a few people who represent “news, politics and sports.”
(I am such a non-sports kind of cartoonist, I needed to look at Google image search to figure out how to draw football gear. Gah.)
Now back to drawing and animating for me.
Thanks for being here and supporting my work!
